Journey with the Giants - A Voyage with Whale Sharks videoconference

The Georgia Aquarium and the BUBL Project (Bathysphere Underwater Biological Laboratory) teamed up to provide participants of this videoconference with a most unique experience. With the aid of technology, students spoke directly to a diver who was in the whale shark tank at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, GA. The whale shark is the largest living fish in the oceans today. Students learned about this graceful creature, and also other fish, all of which we viewed live UNDERWATER! The power of videoconferencing is unparalleled! Students also discussed how biodiversity increases the stability of the ecosystem.

Jonathan Reda "The Georgia Aquarium had a diver in their whale shark tank to talk to us about this largest living fish species. It was a fun and unique videoconference. Talking to someone underwater with giant fish swimming over his head was breathtaking. I had heard of whale sharks but never knew much about them until this videoconference. The ocean and aquatic life are fascinating to learn about especially when you can see it first hand. It was a videoconference I will not soon forget."  -Jon
