Journals - Life and Death in the Siberian Forced Labor Camps
Arab Spring Videoconference

Vanderbilt's Virtual School hosts a program series called Witnesses and Voices of the Holocaust. This year PVHS students participated in a very poignant conference with Danielle Kahane-Kaminsky, Executive Director of the Tennessee Holocaust Commission. We viewed a video filmed in spring 2011 of Esther Loeb, Holocaust survivor, speaking to students about her family's time in a Siberian forced labor camp.
She died in May of 2011.

My students were humbled by this experience; Esther's story was incredible for its horror and its triumph. Ms. Kahane-Kaminsky spoke with the students about the importance of these oral histories since survivors of the Holocaust are passing away with each year that goes by. Soon, we, as global citizens, will have to continue the study of the Holocaust and its victims without being able to speak one-on-one with a survivor.

A suggested book for Holocaust study by Ms. Kahane-Kaminsky is Salvaged Pages: Young Writers' Diaries of the Holocaust (2002), collected and edited by Alexandra Zapruder.
