Today we followed up on our November 16, 2010 videoconference with Gerda Weissmann Klein. We answered the call that she made to us: It's a three-month service learning challenge. Are your students ready to STAND UP, SPEAK OUT, and LEND A HAND against extremism and hunger? Well, CITVC answered the challenge!
During this celebration, CITVC enthusiastically shared their service learning project and interacted with other schools that completed their own service learning projects. We heard from representatives from the Klein Foundation and several other schools across the country. We specifically interacted with the representatives from the Klein Foundation and our sister school, Meigs High School, in Pomeroy, OH.

"We enjoyed our reflection session yesterday. Our partner school, Meigs High School, has a great three-year project planned with the middle school via a BigSister/Brother program. All the schools in our session were so enthusiastic and we feel that we are most definitely carrying on the spirit of service in our communities that The Klein Foundation fosters."   -CITVC statement

MAGPI's project goal: "In order to maintain an on-going dialogue over the course of the project, each class will create a wiki page and posting bi-weekly updates on their projects. Once a month, schools will be assigned a partner class who will review and comment on their wiki page (and vice versa).  Students will then reconvene via videoconference to share their service learning projects with the Klein Foundation during a celebratory "Project Collaboration Videoconference" in March. We will break schools into smaller groups for project sharing to encourage dialogue among students!"

We had great success with our service project, which was raising money for the local food bank in Patrerson, New Jersey - please see our Fundraising News tab for the info!
